Fear of Public Speaking =(

Haihz... I am pretty disappointed at myself today... I just had to sing a short verse in front of everyone and i had some solo parts... Simple enough but i was shaking so badly... Literally shaking... Everyone could see how nevous/scare i was... I find the whole thing ridiculous because i knew it was just something simple... I kept thinking,"just sing and get over with it..." Yet when i was standing infront there, whatever courage i had just flew of the window... Or should i say flew away...

Yeah, now... People will just probably laugh, tease a little and that's it... It is a learning process...But imagine in 2years time when i graduate and start work... When i have to do presentations, have to speak infront of big group, and i am still shaking like this, i will be doom..

I need to overcome my stage fright and fear of public speaking... So need to... I really tried... I speak up eventhough i'm scare... I'm trying to do things that i know i'm afraid to do... And i realised everytime i do public speaking eventhough to a small group, i will end up shaking... I need help, guidance and advices to overcome this particular weakness... Help...! =(

Hey girl, in fact there's still some people are afraid of public speaking even though they r on their working field.

However, usually fear can be overcame by doing more speaking practice, either individually or group. eventually u will treat the audience as lamp post.

Try to develop the thought that you are actually speaking in front of your family members and friends everytime.

Or, u can try to think that u r one of the audience and ask urself: what kind of message u would like to listen from the speaker? Like this maybe u can focus more on the speech instead of the people.

The most important thing is to be proud of urself everytime after the speech!! At least u stood up and spoke!! That's the courage oredi!! Have confidence!

Hope it helps. God bless ya!

Fear of public speaking? "It's all in the mind", "It takes practice", etc etc

Well, we've all heard that. Fact is, fear's gonna be there. So deal with it! :) Dale Carnegie once said to me, "You're never gonna get rid of those butterflies in your stomach. But you can make them fly in formation". Think back on people you've seen on stage who truly caught your attention. Did they speak the same off-stage as on-stage? Quite likely not. They were very likely energetic and passionate on-stage! The reason is adrenaline that flows through their veins when speaking on-stage. Them, you, me... everyone faces the same body chemistry change speaking publicly. The key is to channel and use the adrenaline to your advantage. Your mind begins to think faster. Your body is more alert. Your whole system reacts larger to similar happenings. Singing and shaking? Well, you either shake, or move to the beat! Speaking and shaking? You either shake, or add hand movements and passionate intonation to your speech! Every great speaker I've known never ever claimed to get rid of their fear of being on stage. Without that fear, you'd have no adrenaline pumping. Without adrenaline, you won't have the excitement. Without the excitement, you won't be putting a good show.

So, don't work to get rid of the fear. Work to channel the adrenaline that comes to your benefit. Coz if you don't, it will cause you to be all jittery, and start worrying about the negative "what if". Paint the picture of your presentation the way you want it. Keep everything else out. Be happy about that picture. Be excited about that picture. And that great presentation you've thought of will indeed be reality.

Gambate! You can do it!
